Construction machines do not drive, they work. A hydraulic excavator digs, earthmoves and loads. A wheel loader handles stockpiled materials and feeds the trucks. A bulldozer pushes, strips and opens up tracks. A grader levels the surface before compaction, to the centimetre.

The purchase price is not what costs most

On these machines, the availability of parts and access to a workshop decide the operating cost far more surely than the amount paid up front. A machine stopped for want of a part costs more, in lost site days, than was saved at purchase.

Size for the task

Power, shown on each product page, gives an idea of what the machine gets through in a day. But it is the bucket volume, the digging depth or the blade width that link it to the real work.

A machine too big for the site access cannot get in; a machine too small for the volume holds the whole site hostage. The right size follows from the earthworks to be done and the deadline, not from a brochure.

New and used

On a used machine, it is the operating hours, the condition of the tracks or tyres and the service history that set the price, far more than the year.
