Semi-trailers & trailers
A semi-trailer has no engine: it is pulled by a tractor unit and rests on it through the fifth wheel. A trailer, on the other hand, runs on its own axles behind a rigid truck. In both cases, it is the body that does the job: flatbed, tipper, tanker, refrigerated, lowbed.
Three or four axles
The number of axles determines the permitted load and how it is spread. Three axles cover everyday use on the regional corridors. Four axles are needed as soon as the load gets heavier, or when the rules on the route limit the weight per axle — a point to check before buying, as axle-load checks have tightened on the West African corridors.
Choose by the load
A plain flatbed carries packaged loads, containers and equipment. A grain or construction tipper is filled from the top and emptied by tipping. A tanker is chosen by the product, as on a rigid truck. A refrigerated trailer is sized by the temperature to hold and the length of the trip, refrigeration unit included.
A lowbed is sized by the machine it has to carry: usable length, width, ground clearance and above all ramps suited to the type of track or tyre. An excavator that cannot climb onto the deck ties up two machines at once.
New and used
Our stock includes new and used semi-trailers and trailers. On a used one, the condition of the chassis, suspension and brakes matters more than its looks.
